Maintenance

Materials that are exposed to the elements in outdoor environments will need regular care and maintenance to help to keep them in the best condition, for example:

  • Our powder coated steel pieces are galvanised before painting to protect the finish.  Please take care not to damage the paintwork as any chips or scratches etc. will cause water ingress which will further affect the paintwork. Painted steel finishes can be re-painted with a suitable metal-based paint to prevent future damage.

  • It is important to keep the surface of your sculpture clean, but do not use chemical or abrasive cleaning products and/ or tools as this may affect the finish.

  • Our mild steel sculptures and focal points are untreated, unless stated otherwise, so will develop a beautiful surface rust over time, along with untreated steel around fixing points and bolted areas.  Please note that the rust from untreated mild steel can cause surfaces around the steel to stain.

  • Sculptures must be adequately secured into position following the relevant guidance and regularly checked for safety and stability.

  • Please note that the rate of materials aging and changing outside is also affected by location, pollution, environment, weather, water, humidity and temperature etc.  For example, additional care and attention may be needed for steel pieces installed in coastal areas due to accelerated corrosion from salt and moisture levels etc.

  • For further information on the materials used in each piece in our collection, please contact us or see our care guides.
